Well, as I'm sure every one of you knows, Free Trade came out about 3 weeks ago. I think this is a great time to look back and analyze the impacts from the Free Trade update, both from the position of a Runescape Gold Seller, and a Runescape player. A lot of unexpected changes occurred; who expected Party Hats to hit such high prices? Who expected Runescape Gold Sales to multiply ten fold?
When Free Trade came out, I logged into MSN, expecting simply a regular day at the office. That didn't end up being the case. The moment I logged in, I received HUNDREDS of messages. My MSN crashed the first three times I opened it up from all the contact! People were going crazy for Runescape Gold, they were buying tons of mils, more than I could even stock at the time. I saw customers who I hadn't heard from in years. Right away I realized this was something major, and that I was right at the centre of it. Runescape was back in a big way, and Runescape Gold was the hottest product on the market.
Right away I began contacting suppliers and made arrangements to handle the massive increase in order volume. At R2Pleasent.com, we went from ~3 Billion in orders per week to as much as 5 Billion PER DAY! You can imagine how surreal it felt that people were Buying Runescape Gold in such crazy quantities. We immediately began offering the option to stake the gold over, or just regularly trade it. This seems to work well, and we have so far not had a single RWT ban. As a player, the changes were also quite drastic. The duel arena was packed again (thank god!), and staking was now back without limits. Personally, this was one of my favourite areas of the game, and by far the most interesting. Today, World 22 is packed 24 hours a day, and you should be able to find stakes from anywhere between 10K to 1000M+ within minutes. Party Hats have exploded; Blues are worth the equivalent of 3.3B in Gold (which is more than a player can even hold in their inventory!) The game is just so much more entertaining without Trade Limits, and I think nearly any player will atest to this.
